If you have been keeping up with our blog, we have been discussing all the reasons why you may be losing your hair. At Pro|Gen Probe, our hair analyzers are the tools needed by medical professionals and hair salons and stylists. Our hair analyzers are able to magnify the hair and scalp as well as take digital video and images for your stylist to go over with you. Your stylist doesn’t need to tell you what's wrong with your hair any longer, they can show you.

In this blog post, we are going to continue to lay out reasons as to why you may be losing your hair.

Hormones

Similar to pregnancy, other female hormones can cause hair loss as well. Something as simple as switching or discontinuing birth control can cause hair loss to occur. Additionally, when women go through menopause, this also can trigger hair loss. There is a hormone, androgen, that becomes activated when a woman starts experiencing menopause. Your hair follicles will start to become smaller and this will cause more hair loss. A hair analyzer will be able to view the shrinking hair follicle and your stylist will be able to prescribe the right tools to reinstate your hair growth.

Anemia

This is a condition that is associated with iron deficiency. This condition is commonly seen in women between the ages of 20 through 49. Iron deficiency can cause hair loss, so it is important to make sure you are getting the accurate amount of iron need for your body. When you have anemia you will also endure fatigue, headaches, cold hands and feet, and pale skin. If you have anemia your medical physician should prescribe something to balance out the deficiency and help with the hair loss.

Hypothyroidism

The thyroid gland is located within the neck and it helps keep your metabolism balanced and aids in growth. When your thyroid is not producing a number of hormones your body needs this means you have an under-active thyroid and this can lead to hair loss. You will need to get medication from your medical provider to help combat the symptoms of this condition, such as hair loss.

Alopecia Areata

Sometimes, when your body is confused and your immune system is out of whack, it believes that your hair is a foreign object to the body and it needs to be destroyed, which in turn causes hair loss. To combat this type of condition, a doctor may prescribe you steroids. Additionally, other hair growth medications can also be used, but unfortunately, this condition is unpredictable as it can seem as if it's getting better and then you will begin to lose your hair all over again.

Lupus

Another autoimmune disease, this can cause hair loss. The body doesn’t understand what hair is to the body and starts to attack it. However, unlike alopecia this hair loss is permanent. Someone with a hair analyzer will be able to suggest a great hairstyle for someone who uses their hair at a more accelerated rate. Cutting your hair short may be for the best because short hair is much stronger than long and it short hair can hide patches of baldness more easily.
